Publishing
Here are some ways you can ‘publish’ your own books.
Publish on Demand ‘Real’ Books:
1. Research your topic.
2. Use the Writing Process to create your text.
3. Make illustrations. My class used cut paper collage to make our class nonfiction books.
4. Find a publish on demand company. We used Blurb.
5. Follow the directions on the site. Upload your illustrations
and add your text.
6. Have your friends and family check out the preview and
order your book! See our class samples for ideas.
7. Jack Dalton, aka The Conservationist Kid, wrote a book
about orangutans. He used the money he raised to build
awareness and help the endangered orangutans. Check
out his book at Kid Conservationist
Create One-of-a-Kind Books
1. Research your topic.
2. Use the Writing Process to create your text.
3. Make booklets with construction paper or use blank books (we used blank hardcover
books from Bare Books—you can find them online).
4. Illustrate the pages and add your text.
5. Create a beautiful cover. For the Bare Books, we used crayon to make the picture, then
used watercolors to paint over the crayon and create a background, and last added the
title and author name with markers. You can also use stickers to give yourself an‘award’.
